The Spacious Place

A confidential space for leaders to breathe, reflect, and sustain the weight of responsibility.

Hello, I’m Paul.
I’m a registered therapist who works primarily with leaders navigating demanding roles, high expectations, and sustained emotional pressure.

Leadership today is more complex than ever. Whether you’re leading an organisation, a school, a charity, a church, or a business, the demands are relentless. Long hours, difficult decisions, and the responsibility of caring for others can slowly erode emotional margin.

The Spacious Place exists to help leaders make their lives and roles emotionally and psychologically sustainable.

If you’re not currently in a leadership role, I’m happy to help direct you to a trusted colleague who may be a better fit.

Why Leaders Need a Spacious Place

Leadership has always carried pressure. What’s changed is the weight of expectation.

Leaders are now expected to absorb stress from every direction — staff, stakeholders, families, communities, and society at large — often without space to process the impact.

Over time, this pressure shows up:

  • Physically, through stress-related symptoms
  • Psychologically, through mental overload, anxiety, or fatigue
  • Relationally, through strain on marriages, families, and close relationships

Every leader needs a confidential, expectation-free space to offload emotional weight, reflect honestly, and restore capacity.

That’s what The Spacious Place provides.

Individual Counselling

There are seasons when even the most capable leaders feel overwhelmed.

Pressure can come from many places:

  • Workload and responsibility
  • Conflict or unresolved relationships
  • Anxiety, stress, or emotional fatigue
  • Long-standing patterns that no longer serve you

Often this is where our past meets our present. Old scripts, beliefs, or coping strategies can quietly limit who we’re becoming.

Therapy is not the soft option. It’s about doing the honest work of resolving what holds us back so we can move forward with clarity and strength.

I offer an initial, no-obligation Zoom conversation (around 30 minutes) to explore whether working together would be a good fit. If not, I’ll gladly help signpost you to a more appropriate professional.

Decompression Sessions

Prevention is always better than crisis intervention.

Decompression Sessions are monthly, confidential 50-minute sessions designed to help leaders process the emotional load of their role before it becomes unsustainable.

These sessions:

  • Support long-term emotional health
  • Reduce burnout risk
  • Increase leadership longevity and clarity

Where appropriate, a spouse or partner may attend.

Many organisations now fund these sessions as part of a broader staff care or wellbeing package, alongside pensions or health insurance. While funded by employers, the content remains strictly confidential.

Decompression Sessions can be reviewed annually as part of a leadership support strategy.
